Insomnia and Sleep

Do you have trouble getting a good night’s rest? Plagued by insomnia, racing thoughts, or restless sleep?

Or do you think you are sleeping well, but are still exhausted through the day?

Are you trying to avoid taking sleep medication, or finding your sleep medication is no longer working?

You are not alone. According to the National Center for Sleep Disorders Research at the National Institutes of Health, about 30-40% of adults say they have some symptoms of insomnia within a given year, and about 10-15 percent of adults say they have chronic insomnia.

Sometimes sleep problems are actually problems with sleep, and other times disrupted sleep or insomnia is a symptom of other physical or psychological problems. The beginning of treatment will include a comprehensive evaluation to determine the cause of your sleep problem and a treatment plan to address it.

For those with insomnia I provide an evidenced-based treatment called CBT-i, or Cognitive-Behavioral Treatmet for Insomnia. CBT-i works by shifting your thoughts about sleep as well as your behaviors during the day and at night.  It is comprehensive, tailored to your specific situation, and effective at restoring a stable healthy sleep pattern. Once you have received treatment for insomnia, you will always have the tools to keep an occasional sleepless night from turning into insomnia in the future.  The benefit over medication is that it teaches you about sleep, about how your body and mind work together to allow you to sleep, and in this way it empowers you to be in control.

Schedule an appointment today, and give yourself the gift of good sleep.

The more I know about your current sleep habits at the first appointment the faster we can get started in changing them. Please complete a sleep diary and bring it with you to your first appointment.
